Sago Pudding

1 quart water 2/3 cup brown sago 1/3 level teaspoon salt 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup dates stoned and cut into small pieces 1/4 cup walnuts cut into small pieces 1 tablespoon lemon juice Soak the sago in one cup of the water for one-half hour. Heat the remainder of the water to boiling, and stir into it the soaked sago, the sugar, and the salt. Cook in a double boiler, stirring occasionally, till the sago is transparent, which will require about twenty minutes. Then stir in the lemon juice, dates, and nuts. Serve either warm or cold, with cream or custard sauce.
