LITCHI, or Lichi
a nut grown in Southern China and sold in a dried state in this country. As seen here, it is nearly round and from one to one and a half inches at its widest diameter, with a very thin but tough shell, dark brown and granulated in appearance, enclosing a dull reddish-brown pulp of raisin-like sweetness, with a round flat stone in its center. The fresh nut looks like a strawberry, and the sweet pulp enclosed in the rough red skin is then whitish and watery.
