LOVAGE

an aromatic plant, now used chiefly in the manufacture of confectionery. The blanched stalks were formerly consumed as a salad vegetable of the same type as celery and are still popular for that purpose in some parts of Southern Europe.

Scottish Lovage, a similar plant of the same species, grows wild on the Shetland Isles, north of Scotland, and is there used as a popular article of diet.
