an invention of the American Indian, is lean beef, or venison, dried hard, pounded to a powder and pressed into cakes. Sugar, melted fat, etc., are sometimes added in manufacture. It is now a commercial article, manufactured on a considerable scale both here and in Australia. It is especially suitable for Arctic exploration, etc.
