Leather, Ink, and Miscellaneous: Polish

Polish with silk or chamois. This gives a very high gloss and does not injure the leather.

Or cut fresh lard with kerosene oil, and add ivory black to color. Apply warm with a brush. This is cheap, handy, and generally useful.

Or melt 2 ounces of black rosin, and add 3 ounces of beeswax. Remove from the fire, and add ounce of ivory black and dram of Prussian blue. Rub up smoothly together and thin to soft paste with turpentine. Apply with a cloth and polish with a brush.
