Outdoor Problems of the Householder: Bird
Cedar Bird, Cat Bird and Robins. -These birds are most often accused of stealing cherries, strawberries or other small fruit. The first is sometimes called the "cherry bird" on account of this well known propensity. Close observation indicates that the damage done by these and other small birds is confined chiefly to very early fruit crops, since these mature in advance of the wild fruits which form their ordinary summer diet. Most of this damage can be prevented by planting near the garden or orchard a few such trees as the Russian mulberry, the fruit of which they ordinarily prefer. During the remainder of the year these birds are highly beneficial. Hence their presence should be encouraged.
