The Day's Routine: Tinware

Tinware. To cleanse tinware moisten either brick dust or whiting with aqua ammonia, kerosene, or washing soda. Care must be taken not to use lye in cleaning tins, as it will injure them.

To Prevent Rust on Tinware. - After washing and wiping tinware, place it on the back of the range or other warm place until it is thoroughly dry. To protect new tinware rub lard over every part of the tin and set it in the oven until it is heated through. This makes the tin permanently rust proof.
