Flint and Steel Fire
Your ax will strike sparks when you let it slip and glance against a rock with quartz or flint in it. You will either scowl or grin at your own awkwardness, and swear, if you've nicked the ax; but if you were without a fire or matches to make one, you'd bless that rock instead, for you could catch a spark on a piece of your shirt tail and start your campfire with that. A rugged little bit of flint and a piece of steel carried in the pocket will do the same thing even after you have capsized in the lake and find that your waterproof package as well as your pocket matchbox has leaked.
