1302. In this way there is an opportunity of arriving at-first, the weekly expenditure, which will vary in some trifling degree; and, secondly, the total cost of each item set down in the table given at page 323.

The plan is exceedingly simple, and only requires a knowledge of compound addition to carry it out, as the entries are all made in the same amounts as are stated on the weekly bills, or those paid at longer or shorter intervals. These may be either left open, to be added up at the end of the year, or they may be added up quarterly, or even monthly, if desired; but less than the quarter seldom gives an exact idea of the yearly cost of the house.
