About the Book

Clarence E. Edwords' Bohemian San Francisco (1914) is a loving tour of the city's famous restaurants and the 'elegant art of dining' as practiced there — written before the word Bohemian meant anything but good company and better food.

Edwords collected the most famous recipes of the city's chefs — many given up reluctantly — and wrapped them in stories of the old Cobweb Palace, the Poodle Dog, Coppa's and the rest.

It is both a cookbook and a portrait of a vanished San Francisco, published just eight years after the earthquake and fire.
