Liquid Blacking

Take three ounces gum shellack, I 1-2 ounce Venice turpentine, one pint spirits wine, four table spoonfuls of ivory black; put the gum lack in the spirits wine, stop it, put it into hot water, or in the sun, until dissolved, then add the turpentine and ivory black; when well mixed and shook up, apply it with a sponge or small brush.
