JUJUBE

the fruit of a spiny shrub of the buckthorn family, in some parts eaten uncooked, but more often dried and sold as a sweetmeat. It looks somewhat like a date and is generally red, though sometimes yellow in color. It contains a large percentage of nutrients and is highly rated medicinally for its demulcent properties.

The jujube has given its name to the famous confection "Jujubes," or "Jujube Paste," but the latter is generally made of gum-arabic and sugar.
