KINGFISH

one of the finest of American fishes, found along the Atlantic coast, both north and south, and in season from May to October. It averages one to two pounds in weight, larger specimens attaining a length of fifteen inches. The variety caught off the Northern States is distinguished by darker, more pronounced stripes than those of its Southern relations. The head of both types resembles that of the mullet.
