About the Book

The ladies of the Libertyville Presbyterian Church compiled this cookbook the way small congregations did: level measurements, a shared shorthand explained up front, and a contents page whose numbers were inked in by hand.

This edition is built from a dual-engine reading of the original pages, checked against the scans. Its exact year is still being verified from external records before publication.

The copy we scanned had been used. A previous owner wrote four candy recipes of her own — Divinity, Nougat, Black Walnut Cream and Fudge — onto the bottom of page 70 and the blank page after it, in ink. They are not reproduced here. They were written in by hand by a previous owner and are not part of the printed book.
