Pecan Cake

1 lb. seeded raisins 1 lb. shelled pecans 1/2 cup cut candied orange peel 2 cups pastry flour 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 3/4 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup molasses 1/2 cup grape juice 3 eggs Combine as for regular fruit cake. Pour into greased and papered baking pan, bake 3 hours at 275 degrees. Makes a four-pound cake.

For the Modern Kitchen

A dark fruitcake that leans on pecans rather than citron and glace cherries, with grape juice standing in for the brandy or wine of older formulas. The instructions assume you already know the fruitcake method, so that is worth spelling out.
