Lemon Verbena

This lemon-scented herb from South America is similar to the rose geranium in two ways: its volatile leaves rather than its flower are used for flavoring and it's effective as a moth-discourager when left around in muslin bags. You can uncover it in almost any grandmotherly herb patch and put it in drinks, hot infusions, soups, stews, fish sauces and such. Its lemon scent is strong and the leaves do not get bitter when boiled.
