"Potatoes and Point"

When supplies are running low put any snip of cheese, bacon, salt fish or other desirable food in a bottle and set it on the table beside the potato ring when there's nothing else on the menu. The idea is for those "dining on potatoes and point" to take a mouthful of plain boiled murphy and then point to some well liked food in the bottle and just imagine they're eating it too.

Buttermilk and boiled spuds make a good meal by themselves, their flavors subtly complementing each other.
