Compiled by Mrs. Maria Gentile and published by the Italian Book Company of New York in 1919, this book introduced the Cucina Casalinga — Italian home cooking — to American housewives in the thrift-minded years after the Great War.

Its preface makes the pitch plainly: Italian cooking is palatable, healthy and economical. Every recipe gives the dish both its names, English and Italian, from Broth (Brodo) through Macaroni Napolitaine (Maccheroni alla Napoletana) to the sweets and syrups of the last chapters.
