Japanese Spirea

JAPANESE SPIREA.
JAPANESE SPIREA.

It is a very ornamental shrub, of medium size, with handsome foliage and large single white flowers in the latter part of May, succeeded by numerous small fruits.

GUELDER ROSE (VIBURNUM).

VIBURNUM. (SNOWBALL). - This tribe is well known. The cut shows, at onethird its size, V. opulus, or bush cranberry, variety, sterilis, the common guelder rose of the garden. The plicate viburnum is better in every respect. Of moderate growth; handsome, plicated leaves, globular heads of pure white neutral flowers, early in June, it surpasses the common variety in several respects.

Its habit is better, foliage much handsomer, flowers whiter and more delicate. One of the most valuable flowering shrubs.

VIII. Climbing and Trailing Shrubs.

Or climbing and trailing shrubs there is a great variety. Ampelopsis (Virginia creeper); Dutchman's pipe (aristolachia); and clematis, or virgin's bower, being well known.
