The illustration shows, in half size of nature, the flowers of magnolia speciosa, the showy-flowered magnolia. This tree resembles the M. Soulangeana in growth and foliage, but the flowers are a little smaller, and of a lighter color, fully a week later, and remain in perfect condition upon the tree longer than those of any other Chinese variety.
