About the Book

In 1911 the Ladies' Sewing Society of St. Luke's Church in Catskill, New York, compiled this cook book to raise funds — every recipe contributed and signed by a village cook: Mrs. Fannie Smith's snow pudding, Mrs. Miller's soups, and dozens more.

Community cookbooks like this one are among the truest records of what American families actually ate, and the Catskill book carries its village's whole social register in its bylines.
