SMITH HOUSE, CATSKILL, N. Y.

Of all the trees, that clothes the earth Of green and golden brown-- The dearest and the best to me Grows right in Catskill town.

So lovely does it grow in town Sixty feet high and more And rearing up its lofty head It grows right through my floor.

At meal time when my eager guest Consults the bill of fare They're seated around the shady elm As if in open air.

And when my business doubles up I stretch the rooms some more But I never touch the good old tree That grows right through my floor.

THE ELM THAT MADE THE SMITH HOUSE FAMOUS
