Drop Cakes

1 cupful butter, 1/2 cupful sugar, 2 eggs, 1 small teaspoonful baking-powder, 1 pint flour, 1 cupful washed and picked currants, 1 teaspoonful each extract nutmeg and lemon, 1/2 cupful milk. Rub the butter and sugar to a white, light cream; add the eggs, beat ten minutes; add the flour and powder sifted together, the milk, and extracts. Mix into a rather firm batter, and drop with a spoon on a greased baking-tin; bake in a quick oven ten minutes.

For the Modern Kitchen

A plain butter drop cake of the sort baked in tins by the dozen for tea. Two things need attention before you start: the flour is measured by volume as a pint, and the currants are never mentioned again after the ingredient list.
