Fruit Salad

Latticed pineapple and tart apples, strawberries, bananas, cherries, pulped oranges, seeded Malaga grapes, chopped browned almonds or peanuts; beat 1 cupful olive-oil, cayenne, salt, and 1 teaspoonful lemon juice; set on ice until stiff; dispose over salad beneath the latticed fruit.

For the Modern Kitchen

A terse turn-of-the-century fruit salad in the telegraphic style these compilations favored: a list of fruits, a chilled oil dressing, and no quantities for the fruit at all. A few conventions need unpacking before it makes sense at the counter.
