Sour or Narrow Dock
This common weed grows along the roadsides or rich pasture fields. The leaves are long, narrow and curly; they may be cooked the same as spinach, but make a much more delicate green. It is supposed to possess alterative properties, forming an excellent diet in scorbutic cases. As it grows early in the spring, long before the ordinary farmer has greens for the table, it makes an excellent accompaniment to the salt meat that is so freely used by them.
