German Salad 2

Salt lettuce leaves and let stand 2 hours. Pour sweetened vinegar over, then scatter over small squares of bacon crisply fried. Decorate with slices of hard-cooked egg.

For the Modern Kitchen

A wilted lettuce salad of the hot-bacon-dressing family, written in the shorthand of a camp cook who assumed you knew the proportions. Two things need judgment: how long the salt sits, and how sweet the vinegar gets.
