Olive Oil for Health
PURE olive oil-such as Pompeian Olive Oil-is something more than a food substance. It has valuable medicinal properties which, as has been known for centuries, render it a most valuable household remedy.
People who take plenty of olive oil rarely suffer from constipation. People who are habitually costive often overcome and get rid of this bad habit by taking olive oil. The wise mother knows that a tablespoonful of olive oil given her child as soon as the breathing begins to hoarsen or roughen usually prevents an attack of croup. A teaspoonful of olive oil every hour or two is an efficient cough medicine when there is much soreness, dry, racking cough and little or no expectoration.
A massage or rub with olive oil will soften and beautify a harsh, rough skin. It works wonders on a dry, itching or burning scalp (rub in a few drops and brush the hair thoroughly).
A drop of olive oil in the eye will soothe the irritation remaining after a cinder or some foreign body has been removed.
A drop or two of warm olive oil will often stop earache. Olive oil is an ideal application to a burn or scald. Children who have been taught to like olive oil are much less liable to suffer from colds. The same is true of adults. Lovers of olive oil rarely contract rheumatism. But it must be genuine, pure olive oil, which means Pompeian Olive Oil. Keep it in the house both as a valuable food and a useful household remedy.
