Swedish Tea Ring
1 cup scalded milk
I yeast cake softened in ¼ cup
¾ teaspoon salt warm water
¼ cup sugar
3½ cups flour
6 tablespoons shortening
1 egg
⅛ cup finely chopped nuts
Add the scalded milk to the salt, sugar and fat. When lukewarm add the yeast. Add one-half the flour and beat well. Let rise until very light. When light add the egg and the remaining flour and beat well. Let rise. Divide the dough into two parts and shape each in a long, round piece and form two circles, placing the circles on a baking-tin. Brush with white of egg and sprinkle with finely chopped nuts. With a large pair of scissors cut toward the center of the ring, but not quite to the center, at intervals of two inches, placing the cut section each time flat on the tin, giving it a petal-like appearance. When light, bake in a moderate oven (350°-400° F.).
