How to Launder Napery

1-Mend if necessary. 2-Remove any fruit, coffee or punch stains. (See page 107.) 3-Rub spots with a good soap, or rub in a soap solution, using a small brush. 4-Soak white articles thirty minutes in tepid water, containing a soap solution. (To make this, dissolve one-half cup good soap flakes in a pint of boiling water and add to a half tub of tepid water.) Do not soak colored napery. 5-Souse up and down in the water-then rub on a board as little as possible. 6-Boil white napery, but do not boil colored things. 7-Rinse in several waters-till the final one is clear. Use one teaspoonful of liquid blue to the last tub of rinsing water. 8-Wring-dip in the right amount of Linit which should be cold. 9-Wring again, pull into shape and hang to dry, putting colored linens in the shade. If retinting is necessary, add a tint sparingly to the Linit solution. 10-Sprinkle evenly; use a clean whisk broom if you do not have a clothes sprinkler. Put napkins together evenly, fold table cloths and roll tight, put doilies together. Ease in ironing depends much on smooth rolling. Wrap in cloths and let stand several hours. 11-Iron with the warp-not "round and round," or "any old way"-until thoroughly dry. Fold cloths and napkins once, the dinner and large napkins in squares, monogrammed corner outside, and tea napkins in triangles. Learn to iron with both hands. Iron laces and embroideries on the wrong side on a padded surface to bring out the pattern. Coax lace edges into shape with the fingers. Iron into the original form. Comb or brush out fringe after ironing.
