Marble Cake

Dark-One cup of brown sugar, one cup of molasses, one cup of butter and lard, three-fourths cup of sour milk, one-half teaspoon of soda dissolved in the milk, one-half teaspoon each of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, yolks of four eggs, flour to make batter of right consistency.

White-Two small cups of white sugar, one cup of butter and lard, three-fourths cup of sweet milk, whites of four eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla, one heaping teaspoon of baking powder, flour for batter as before.
