The use of silver adds much to the appearance of a table, but like cut glass, is not essential, with the exception of knives, forks and spoons.

However, if you are the possessor of a silver service, and you can easily be, use it, keeping it clean and bright. It is much more attractive on a well-ordered table than on a sideboard.
