GUMBO

See OKRA. The title "Gumbo" is in the South also applied to a rich Creole soup of mixed vegetables, meats, herbs, poultry, shellfish, etc., which generally contains Okra as one of its ingredients, the compound title of each style bearing the name of the chief character ingredient, as Chicken Gumbo, Shrimp Gumbo, Okra Gumbo, etc.
