Chocolate Fudge Cake

(2 eggs) 2 cups sifted Swans Down Cake Flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1½ teaspoon soda 14 teaspoon salt 1½ cup butter or other shortening 1 cup sugar 2 egg yolks, well beaten 3 squares Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate, melted 14 cups milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, soda, and salt, and sift together three times. Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar gradually, and cream together until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks and chocolate, then flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla. Fold in egg whites. Bake in two greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven (350° F.) 30 minutes. Put layers together and cover top and sides of cake with fudge frosting. Double recipe to make three 10-inch layers.
