Cornmeal Gruel

To one quart of boiling water, slightly salted, add onefourth of a cupful of cornmeal, wet with a fourth of a cupful of cold water. Boil the mixture rapidly for a few minutes in a granite-ware saucepan, then let it simmer for an hour and a half or until thoroughly cooked.
