Escalloped Asparagus

Boil asparagus until tender, then drain and place a layer in a baking dish which you have buttered and sprinkled with bread crumbs; sprinkle the asparagus with chopped hard boiled eggs, pepper, salt and grated cheese and continue in this way until the pan is full, having the top layer of asparagus. Make a thin white sauce of a tablespoonful of butter, tablespoonful of flour and a cupful of milk, and pour this over the other ingredients, allowing it to soak through the mixture. Mix a little grated cheese with fine bread crumbs and sprinkle over the top. Place in the oven and bake a light brown.
