The members of this species are valuable shrubs when planted singly, in groups or in masses. Some are distinguished by their elegantly variegated foliage, others by their bright colored bark. The variety in question is a small tree, native to Europe, which produces clusters of bright yellow flowers early in spring, before the leaves make their appearance. The foliage, beautifully variegated with white, makes this decidedly the prettiest variegated shrub in cultivation.
