Johnny Cake

4 cups corn meal 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons molasses 3 cups buttermilk 2 teaspoons soda 2 eggs This rule calls for water milled corn meal. The usual kiln dried meal makes a different quality and the proportions should be 3 cups of meal and 1 of flour. Mix and sift the dry ingredients, add the buttermilk and molasses slowly; add the beaten eggs and beat all together for two minutes with a broad wooden spoon. Bake in two pans for one-half hour in a moderate oven.
