Anna Held 2026 Editor's Note: Anna Held (1872–1918) was Florenz Ziegfeld's first great star and common-law wife, the Parisian coquette whose (entirely invented) daily milk baths were the publicity stunt that launched Ziegfeld himself. Her contribution is fittingly extravagant: a towering coupe of vanilla ice cream layered with whole French candied chestnuts , Jamaica rum , whipped cream and maraschino cherries . No milk bath — but dessert staged as a Ziegfeld production number. (Ed: BR 2026-07-22)

COUPE ANN ARBOR
(For one person) One tablespoon chopped French candied chestnuts.
Cover with Jamaica rum.
Cover with one layer of ice cream (vanilla).
Then one layer whole chestnuts, then alternate ice cream and whole chestnuts until the dish is filled.
Cover top with whipped cream and decorate with maraschino cherries and French chestnuts.
