Bread Dressing for Game

To 1/2 a cupful of fine bread crumbs add 2 tablespoonfuls of melted butter; season with 1/4 teaspoonful salt, a dash of cayenne and of paprika. Place in a double boiler a cupful of milk, a couple of slices of onion, a blade of mace, and 1/2 bay leaf; bring to a boil, strain, and return to saucepan. Now mix in the bread crumbs. This is served with small game, either as a side-dish or as a garniture.
